Meru National Park is a wilderness area of approximately 870 sq km. It is situated east-north-east of Mount Kenya in the Meru District of Eastern Province. The landscape is mainly thorny bush land in the North, wooded grasslands in the West and open grassland elsewhere. The park also has dense riverine forests of Doum and Raffia palm.
Wildlife to be found here includes Grevy's Zebra, Elephant, Eland, Bush Pig, Waterbuck, Cheetah, Leopard, Reticulated Giraffe, Hippopotamus, Bohor Reedbuck, Hartebeest, Python, Puff Udder, Cobra, Buffalo, and more than 300 recorded species of birds.
