Vakona Forest Lodge is perfectly located for exploring both Andasibe and Mantadia National Park. This is a very popular choice and during the months of September and October it can be very hard to get a room unless you book early.
The lodge itself is set among lush and exotic vegetation, and the main building is located next to a small, picturesque lake. The 29 rooms are scattered around the grounds in groups of small rows and offer comfortable, good-sized accommodation with en suite bathrooms. They are not fancy, but perfectly good for a few nights. Rooms 26-29 are newer rooms and more suitable for honeymooners. There are also family rooms, with an additional second floor (accessed by a spiral staircase) with two beds and an attic feel.
The main building houses the reception, restaurant and bar. The restaurant offers good food and a nice setting, either inside around the central fire, or outside overlooking the lake. The lodge also has its own small reserve called Lemur Island where guests can get up close to these creatures, (only for children 7 years and over). Horse riding, walks and canoeing can all be arranged from the lodge and there is also a swimming pool to relax in after an exciting day in the park.
