For such an inaccessible area, Masoala Forest Lodge offers comfortable and attractive accommodation. The lodge is located in a clearing of the rainforest, behind a golden stretch of beach.
Constructed with local materials there are five thatched tents, which can accommodate up to ten people. Each tent stands on wooden decking and is fully furnished, even with a nice hammock to relax in or while away the day with a book. Hot water, showers and toilets are in a separate building a short walk away. There is a thatched restaurant area which offers freshly cooked, locally inspired meals often including fresh fish and organic ingredients.
The lodge's relationship with the local community is vital to their success, conservation and development of the surrounding villages. A trip to visit the local community is a must where you can see farms where vanilla, coffee, cloves and rice are grown. Various other activities can be organised from the lodge including guided forest walks, snorkelling, fishing, whale watching and the hugely rewarding sea-kayak trips down the coastline.
