Located in the town of Joffreville, Domaine De Fontenay is a large manor style house with surrounding gardens run by Karl-Heinz Horner.
The 8 rooms and one suite are split between the main building and several other rooms scattered around the gardens. The rooms are simple but spacious, and the restaurant has an old colonial feel with a range of options on the menu.
The main draw of staying at Domaine De Fontenay is it has its own nature reserve. The 300ha nature park is full of streams and waterfalls, spectacular views of the Bay of Diego and the Mozambique Channel, and has well-maintained trails. The reserve is free of charge to guests, but they do recommend a guided walk with a professional Malagasy guide which costs a nominal fee. Night guided walks during the summer (from mid-September to April) are also possible. A wide variety of wildlife can be found in the reserve.
