The remote west has many areas in this vast region that are not accessible to those other than the most dedicated travellers. However, there are two main access points at the towns of Morondava and Mahajanga, both reachable by road, and more often by air, from Antanananarivo. From here visitors can get to some fantastic parks and reserves including Ankaranfantsika, Kirindy, the Tsingy de Bemaraha and Baobab Avenue.
This area has a mainly dry climate, areas of deciduous forest and beautiful beaches. It has some of the best areas to see baobabs and the largest area of tsingy limestone formations.
There are also some of the most remote and luxurious fly-in hotels on the island. These are great places to combine both wildlife and relaxation.
