Just an hour's flight from the capital on the north-west coast, Anjajavy combines beautiful empty beaches with a wildlife-rich, dry deciduous forest and fantastic scenery. It has lots of Madagascar all rolled into one!
Anjajavy Hotel has 24 wooden chalet style rooms all of which are comfortable, stylish, air conditioned and made with local materials in keeping with the surroundings. French windows open up onto a private verandah where you can happily pass time watching the wildlife or simply relaxing. The hotel has a beautiful swimming pool and the main building is home to the restaurant, bar and lounge overlooking the lawn, pool and Indian Ocean beyond. Most meals are taken on the decking which runs the length of the main building.
Anjajavy has two main sandy beaches. The first beach, near to the main building, is dedicated to relaxing and swimming with deck chairs and shade provided. The second beach is more geared towards the water sports on offer. Fishing, snorkelling, deep-sea excursions, catamaran trips and water-skiing are all possible. Other activities aside from the wildlife viewing include mountain-biking and visits to the local community.
Of course Anjajavy is well known for its wildlife viewing which at times is effortless. The 500 hectares of dry deciduous forest are home to coquerel's sifakas, brown lemurs, sportive lemurs and mouse lemurs. There are flocks of love birds, crested ibises, vasa parrots and many more. You will also come across snakes, chameleons and beautiful butterflies all surrounded by fantastic plant life, large baobab trees and extensive mangroves.
Anjajavy is accessible from Antananarivo three times a week presently on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays – with the return flight on the same days.
