The Desert Homestead is situated approximately 32km southeast of Sesriem. The wide grassy valley is sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft Mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west.
The lodge offers 20 thatched, en suite chalets, all luxuriously decorated with dark wood furniture. Each chalet has its own verandah under a canopy with Northern views extending to the Rotterkaum Mountains. Inside they provide luxury, with large single or double beds and en suite bathroom with shower and toilet. The lights and fans in the guest accommodation are powered by a bank of batteries, which are charged by wind and solar power during the day. All guest amenities (soaps, shampoo, body lotion, etc.) are environmentally friendly.
The living areas of the Main Lodge are all open plan. The most prominent feature is the well sheltered verandah where you can have a leisurely breakfast, lunch and dinner, candle-lit even on windy evenings.
Inside, you will find a lounge with African decoration and comfortable leather sofas.
The swimming pool in front of the main building is good for a refreshing dip and well utilised throughout the year.
Activities at Desert Homestead include sunrise and afternoon excursions in a 4x4 vehicle to the dunes of Sossusvlei with picnic lunch, guided excursions to the Naukluft Mountains for a gentle hike and excellent birding, sundowner drives, horse riding and horse 'sleep outs', and self-guided nature trails.
