Volcanoes National Park

DESCRIPTION

Volcanoes National Park, which covers 160kmsq is in the north of Rwanda, is named after the chain of dormant volcanoes making up the Virunga Mountains; Karlsimbi (the highest at 4507m) Bisoke, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura.

The park is famous for its rich biodiversity and of course, its mountain gorillas, and is just one of only three places in the world where you can encounter these majestic mammals. But the area has much more to offer including Golden Monkeys, the Musanze Caves, the Bunhanga Eco Park, hiking trails, (including the tomb of Diane Fossey) and outstanding birding.

The gorillas and golden monkeys can be viewed at any time of year, however, the more comfortable experiences are during the dry season between July & September and December & February.
