The Samara Reserve encompasses the southern flank of the Sneeuberg mountain range and Karoo Lodge is located below the escarpment.
The lodge is a lovingly restored homestead reflecting its colonial past but offering guests modern day luxuries. The lodge caters for individual travellers and families but can also be booked on an exclusive use basis for up to 12 guests.
Accommodation consists of 6 spacious suites. The three Karoo Suites are situated in the garden, each with fireplace and air conditioning, luxury en suite bathroom with large separate bath and shower, and 2 wash basins and an outdoor shower. Each suite has a private covered patio with outdoor seating to enjoy the Karoo views. The three Lodge Suites are situated in the main homestead. Each has a luxury en suite bathroom with separate bath, shower and twin vanities. The suites are spacious, air conditioned, and open onto a wide wrap-around veranda with outdoor sofas to enjoy the views.
Samara’s abundant wilderness preserves a complex and diverse ecosystem, providing habitat for over 60 mammal species. Among more common species, such as the Kudu and Duiker, the secretive Aardvark and the once-endangered White Rhino roam. Game drives take place in open 4x4 vehicles throughout the reserve. Walking safaris specialise in all aspects of getting closer to nature and learning to track animals and approach them on foot. Guests are able to study the finer detail of the bush and experience the feeling of wide open spaces.
