Rufiji River Camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji river, at a point where the river is animated by many different species of animals. There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river which is usually full of hippos and groups of crocodiles resting on the sandbanks.
Accommodation is in 20 tents, each facing the sunset with comfortable beds, walled en suite facilities, and mosquito netting. Each tent has a private veranda under a roof of local straw (makuti) that creates the perfect place for reading, writing or just resting in the shade.
Activities on offer include game drives accompanied by highly experienced rangers, who are experts of the Selous Game Reserve and its animal behaviours. The destinations are quite varied and are normally directed towards one or more of the lakes where the animals group to drink. The itinerary and timing of game drives are decided on the basis of the animals encountered and the specific interests of guests. A normal jeep safari lasts half a day, but a full-day safari can easily be arranged.
Boat safaris are also available with a multitude of destinations, ranging from the main course of the river to the many lateral canals and various lakes. Walking safaris are another highlight, where guests can choose an established trail or one for a special interest, accompanied by an armed ranger.
