Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breath-taking and untouched wilderness in Africa. As a result of this and the parks’ successful anti-poaching campaigns, the area has developed into a world-renowned wildlife haven. The South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its walking safari, which allows visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.
If you love the idea of a remote African safari but don’t want to stay in a camp with a lot of strangers, this is the place for you. Luangwa Safari House is, quite simply, one of the most stylish and luxurious pads in all Africa - perfect for families or groups of friends travelling together.
At Luangwa Safari House we welcome children above seven years old and will adapt the safari to each family depending on the needs and interests of everyone in the group. The Luangwa Safari House guide has a fantastic way with children and will calmly and clearly explain the safari to them as well as show a particular sensitivity towards the children on certain sightings. Depending on the children’s ages there are a whole range of activities available to them including game drives, nature walks where they can learn about animal spoor and droppings, star gazing and even a children’s pack with crosswords and dot to dots to make learning about the bush fun.

The Lower Zambezi National Park is the newest of Zambia’s exceptional, undeveloped wildlife areas. And together with Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools Reserve the area provides a massive trans frontier wildlife sanctuary. Most activities are concentrated along the Zambezi as this is what draws the animals and aside from game drives and walking safaris the area offers canoe trips and tiger fishing.
Out of Africa, and out of this world! Chongwe River House is unique; a true one-of-a-kind. Crafted by renowned architect Neil Rocher, this is award-winning safari design at its finest. This stunning private house makes a significant and unique style statement, located approximately 1 km away from Chongwe River Camp on a quiet stretch of the river after which it was named.
Sleeping eight guests in four, huge en-suite bedrooms, Chongwe River House is inspired by the towering spires of termitariums, sprouting almost organically from the ground in a series of flowing curves and bends which evolve into open living spaces. The walls follow the natural lines of the branches used; tree trunks, lianas and branches seem to grow from the walls and blend effortlessly into seating and dining areas. Beautifully soft colored pebbles from the Chongwe River have been embedded in the ceilings. This private house makes an idea setting for families and small ground offering private guides and house staff.

One of the original natural wonders of the world, the Victoria Falls is a World Heritage Site and an extremely popular tourism attraction. Known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ this spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe and it is an ideal place to combine game viewing and water sports. There is excellent fishing, a terrifying bungee jump and arguably the best commercial white water rafting in the world.
Overlooking the Zambezi River and some of its islands is Toka Leya, comprising 12 raised, spacious en-suite safari-style tents. Tent interiors boast tasteful African décor, climate-control, an indulgent outdoor bath, and an expansive wooden deck from which to soak up the views.
The camp’s dining and lounge areas offer ample space for relaxation. Meals are served on the sundeck, the pool deck and dining room all overlooking the Zambezi. There is a novel pizza oven and a curio shop. The spa rounds off the experience, making Toka Leya the ideal place for a leisurely couple of nights before or after a safari.
Activities include a tour of the Victoria Falls on the Zambian side, game drives within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, river cruises, back-of-house tours, fishing (additional nominal park fee applicable) and rhino tracking (subject to availability of a qualified walking guide and Zambia Wildlife Authority Scout; a nominal fee is charged).
