Namibia is located on the south-west coast of Africa, bordered by Angola and Zambia to the north, Botswana to the east, South Africa to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.

When should you visit?

Namibia is a year-round destination. The dry season from May to October offers clear sunny days, cooler temperatures and excellent game viewing. The green season from November to April brings warmer weather, occasional rain and dramatic landscapes as the desert blooms. Days are generally warm year-round, though desert nights can be cold in winter.

Windhoek

Windhoek is Namibia’s capital and the main gateway to the country. A small, clean and easy-to-navigate city, it offers a comfortable introduction to Namibia’s diverse cultures and landscapes.
With a blend of African and European influences, Windhoek provides a relaxed starting or ending point to any journey, with good restaurants, shops and accommodation before heading out into the wilderness.

Sossusvlei

 

Sossusvlei is Namibia’s most iconic landscape, located deep within the Namib Desert. Towering red sand dunes, some of the highest in the world, surround vast clay pans, creating one of Africa’s most photographed and awe-inspiring scenes.
 
The best time to experience Sossusvlei is at sunrise and sunset, when the shifting light transforms the dunes into deep shades of red and orange. The neighbouring NamibRand Nature Reserve offers a more exclusive desert experience, with vast open spaces, exceptional stargazing and luxury lodges set within this dramatic environment.

Skeleton Coast

 

The Skeleton Coast is one of the most remote and atmospheric regions in Namibia, where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its name comes from the shipwrecks and skeletal remains scattered along the shoreline, creating a haunting yet fascinating landscape.
Despite its harsh conditions, the region supports a surprising array of wildlife, including desert-adapted elephant, lion, hyena and large colonies of Cape fur seals. It is a place of raw beauty and isolation, offering one of the most unique wilderness experiences in Africa.

Swakopmund

 

Swakopmund is a charming coastal town with a strong German colonial influence, offering a unique contrast to Namibia’s desert landscapes.

Known for its relaxed atmosphere and cooler coastal climate, it is a popular base for both exploration and adventure. From here, enjoy a range of activities including scenic flights, desert excursions, dolphin cruises and adrenaline-filled experiences such as quad biking and sandboarding.

Damaraland

 

Damaraland offers some of Namibia’s most dramatic and rugged landscapes, with vast plains, rocky outcrops and dry riverbeds stretching towards the Skeleton Coast.
 
This is a land of stark beauty, known for desert-adapted elephant, the largest free-roaming population of black rhino in Africa, and the ancient rock engravings of Twyfelfontein.

Etosha National Park

 

Etosha National Park is one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations and the highlight of many Namibian safaris. Centred around the vast Etosha Pan, this remarkable landscape draws wildlife to its surrounding waterholes, creating exceptional game viewing, particularly during the dry season. Expect to see elephant, lion, giraffe, rhino and a wide variety of antelope, along with prolific birdlife.

The Caprivi Strip

 

Caprivi Strip is a lush, riverine region in the northeast of Namibia, offering a striking contrast to the country’s arid deserts and wide-open plains. Fed by the Chobe River, Kwando River and Zambezi River, it offers a more scenic and water-based safari experience.
Rich in birdlife and wildlife, including elephant, buffalo and hippo, the region is ideal for boat safaris, river cruises and relaxed game viewing in a beautiful wetland setting.
